Apple's iPod and Apple TV overhauls

Mr. Jobs was at it again earlier today. Apple revealed some cool overhauls and changes to their lineup. It seems like every time he gets on stage, I feel myself digging in my pockets with a deep desire to purchase what he is talking about. Though I will say, the iPod Touch overhaul is starting to make me consider on jumping in for one. But I already have an iPhone....SO WHAT!!? Here is a quick rundown:

Sixth-generation iPod nano
* New Look and Feel (Touchscreen with iPhone-ish feel) NICE!
* Integrated Clip

Fourth-generation iPod touch
* Front and Rear facing cameras
* Face Time App available
* Built-in microphone (yeaaahh... no more headphones)

Apple offering FREE iPhone 4 cases

You may have already heard that many people have had complaints about reception with their new iPhone 4. Apple has announced that they will be offering FREE cases. At first glance, we were shocked at some of the quality cases they are offering. I initially expected variations of the Apple Bumper only... but here is the wrap on what they are offering:

Apple iPhone 4 Bumper (MSRP $30)
The Apple Bumper Case offers minimum protection, but allows you to fully show-off your new investment. The bumper only covers the outer rim, and leaves the front and back fully exposed. It does, however, provide a slight lip for lay-down protections.

Incase Snap Case (MSRP $30)
The Incase Snap Case offers basic protection. I covers that back and the sides of your phone (buttons are exposed). The top, bottom, and screen are fully exposed. This case allows you to still use many docks and accessories sine the ports are exposed. There is a cutout on the back for the camera and flash. You have the choice between Black and Smoke.

Belkin Shield Micra (MSRP $25)
THe Belkin Shield Micra is similar to the Incase Snap Case above, but it provides protection all around your phone. They are only offering it in the CLEAR color. This case offers pretty good protection and still allows you to fancy the full details of your iPhone 4 in full view.

Griffin Motif (MSRP $20)
The Griffin Motif is made of the TPU material. They are offering it in a smoke color with a diamond pattern on the backside.

Grtiffin Reveal Etch (MSRP $30)
The Griffin Reveal Etch is has a hard polycarbonate back with a rubber rim for the side protection. The back has a black graphite etch pattern for detail. The rubber surround offers great shock protection.

Speck Fitted (Dark Tartan Plaid) (MSRP $30)
The Speck Fitted Case has a fabric pattern on the backside that offers a cool and look to it. The case fits nice and snug, without a lot of bulk. There are cutouts for the buttons and camera. If you like the design of this case, you may want to try this one out.

Speck PixelSkin HD ($30)
The Speck PixelSkin HD is a rubber feeling case that has a plastic pixel texture on the backside. The buttons are covered (except for the sleep switch), and it seems to offer pretty good shock absorption qualities.

CONCLUSION
These are some pretty good choices for free cases. We haven't done full hands-on reviews on all these, so we don't have a strong recommendation. And it really depends on what type of protection you are looking for. If it is that hard to choose, just close your eyes and throw a dart! Hey,... it's free.

NEW iPhone 4 unveiled

As you may know by now, the new iPhone 4 was recently unveiled. And I have to say, Steve Jobs knows how to pack a punch! Slimmer...faster... and loaded with more improvements than I expected. Here is a quick rundown:

A new high resolution display called Retina Display increases the overall pixel count by four times, allowing for an extremely sharp display screen.

The new phone is 25% thinner and sports the A4 processor that also runs the iPad. The camera has been enhanced to 5 megapixels and has a backside illuminated sensor which can now record HD video.

It has a battery life of up to 7 hours on 3G talk time and up to 6 hours on 3G browsing, again much more than its predecessor. The iOS 4 software will also allow for high resolution text and buttons on applications.

iPhone 4 will retail at $199 for the 16GB model in white and black colors and will hit the stores on June 24th in US, France, Germany, UK and Japan.

Let's not forget that they have introduced what they call "Facetime." This is basically video phone calls over a wifi connection. Not bad! Stay tuned for more information as the release gets closer. But we are very excited about this new product. This could help eliminate those nauseating videos that makes it seem like the camera man is filming during an earthquake. If this proves to be a true "consumer priced" product... you can expect this to be the next iPhone blogger necessity.

These are some pretty cool little speakers with great character and design. They pushed out some pretty impressive sounds for such a small gadget. Our thoughts...
OrigAudio displayed some pretty innovative products here. The portable speakers caught our attention with the hip designs. But were were even more impressed with the Rock-It (not to take anything away from the Fold n' Play speakers). They gave us a fascinating demo by placing the Rock-It on multiple surfaces and instantly turning it into a speaker (plastic bottle, shoebox, and more...). COOL!

Possible Apple Media Event Jan. 27

There has been some chatter of a possible Media Event later this month from our friend "Steve Jobs." We have been seeing the date of January 27th popping up as the popular date. We are not big pushers of fantasy rumors or anything, but don't be surprised if there is a "new product" introduced. A lot of fingers have been strongly pointing at a new tablet style product called the (feel free to take a stab at it too)...iTablet, iProd, Magic Slate, iCoolNewAppleProduct... Well, no name or actual product has been released yet, but these were some of the names we have seen floating around WWW land.

What better way to start off the new year, but with a new product? Most of Apple's existing products have recently been refreshed. News on the next version of the iPhone (iPhone 4.0) is unlikely to come before this summer, but Apple has been known to throw out a few surprises.

If January 27th proves true, this would place it after this week's CES show in Las Vegas and the highly anticipated Google event on January 5th. This would allow for plenty of comparison chatter and speculation.

We have had these now for a few weeks. Thought it would be suitable to do a full review on these Neoprene Sleeves. These might actually be one of my favorite sleeves (if not my favorite) right now. Retail Price: $30 - $40

Pros:
Stylish! Not difficult to get your notebook in and out of . Zipper protection. Pocket actually holds an iPhone, iPod, or small mouse. Snug fit, even with a case (see video).

Cons:
Did show a few signs of dirt on the black neoprene, but it was easily removed. May not be super thick like other alternatives. No other colors available at this moment.

Summary
This is a great, stylish sleeve that is perfect to use when putting your notebook in a backpack or sleeve. The fact that the zipper goes halfway around the whole sleeve allows for easy insertion and removal of your notebook. And the fact that they have a cool little padding to protect the macbook from the zipper (an issue we found with many other zipper style sleeves), is a plus. We almost gave this 4.5 monkeys!!

Price: Cushdesk - $29.99 / Retractable mouse - $19.99

Pros:
The CushDesk offers a great alternative for using your notebook anywhere that doesn't have a desk top (think... on your bed or couch). Unlike bulkier models, this one is light, thin, and not very bulky. The retractable Comfort mouse seems to be a nice travel accessory with your notebook, but we need to use it to really see if it is as comfortable as indicated.

Cons:
With the CushDesk not being as bulky, other similar products offer space to place your accessories etc. We really need to try this product out to test how usable this product is. (Same feeling for the mouse) Coming soon...

Summary
This review was based on a first impression. Due to the fact that this was a giveaway product, we did not get a chance to do a Hands-On review. We plan on getting our hands on one to do a thorough test and review of this product. Our first impression was very positive. Stay tuned.

1st Impression Belkin Tunebase FM with Clearscan

We got our hands on one of these, and decided to do a 1st impression review. Seems like a very cool FM Transmitter for your iPhone/iPod. We have seen a few different views on similar FMs, but maybe this one will size up better? Stay tuned for when we do a full review on this product and check out the video and info after the break.

Price: $99.99

Pros:
Great features such as Clearscan and Hands Free. Easily compatible with almost all iPhones and iPods without an adaptor or removing the case.

Cons:
A bit on the pricey side, but if the features work as described... might be worth dropping a Benjamin.

Summary
This review was based on a first impression. Due to the fact that this was a giveaway product, we did not get a chance to do a Hands-On review. We plan on getting our hands on one to do a thorough test and review of this product. Our first impression was very positive. If it works as described with all the functions, this could be a great accessory for the car.
